What's On: 4 Ethical Events To Check Out This Month

ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA

11-19 OCT  MELBOURNE
Program and tickets here

EFFA is more than just a film festival – it's a catalyst for positive and sustainable change.

"Our film screenings get viewers thinking and feeling. Our panel discussions and debates get audiences talking and asking questions. Our partners provide opportunities for individual and collective action. We connect conscious consumers with ethical organisations, then direct them to act.

Our programme takes audiences on a deeper exploration of the issues. We’re fuelling conversation about how to make the world a better place, now and into the future. EFFA brings business people, scientists, government, academics, creatives, and environmentalists together for expert panel discussions that get viewers actively involved.

And it’s not just talk. Attendees are given clear directions for action. We present and promote sustainable solutions provided by our partner organisations."

LOVE STORIES FASHION SHOW
FRIDAY 12TH OCTOBER - 6.30PM TO 8PM
Tickets here, Hurry! Only 100 available

"Each garment tells a story of how it met you. How it came to be in your closet.
We want that story to be a love story. Where the garment was made under fair living wages and using sustainable fabrics and then worn until the end of its life, not discarded prematurely.

The show aims to exhibit different love stories.

A love story where the clothes belong to another and yet are able to be shared and expand the hearts that it touches until returned to its original lover.

A love story where the clothes are made under transparent conditions that protect the environment and those who made it.

A love story where it has been given a new life with someone new, already filled with so many memories with its previous lover."

GARAGE SALE TRAIL
OCTOBER 20TH - 21ST
Learn more here

"Garage Sale Trail is one BIG WEEKEND of garage sales that's happening right across Australia. It’s an idea to help encourage reuse, reduce waste and minimise our impact on mother nature.

We believe small actions drive BIG change. So while one garage sale on its own won’t make much difference, when hundreds of thousands of Australians get together in streets, community centres and schools to buy, sell and reuse at garage sales over a weekend… well, that’s a whole lotta difference.

Garage Sale Trail happens with the support of 146 Council partners and more than 400,000 bargain hunting, reuse loving Australians -who this year will shop and sell at more than 15,000 garage sales Australia-wide."

THE CLOTHING EXCHANGE CLOTHING SWAP
WEDNESDAY 10TH OCTOBER - 6.30PM TO 8.30PM
Tickets available here

"At The Clothing Exchange, we believe that looking good shouldn’t ‘cost’ the earth – yet current manufacturing and fashion industry practices are responsible for a vast amount of damage to the environment and to the lives of clothing industry workers.

What’s more, swapping is a clever and thrifty way to update your wardrobe without hitting the shops and maxing out your credit card. It saves you pennies AND makes the world a better place."
